Folks,

On my Linux system I have the following processes:

/sbin/mingetty tty2
root 1020 1 0 Jul08 tty3 00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty tty3
root 1021 1 0 Jul08 tty4 00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty tty4
root 1022 1 0 Jul08 tty5 00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty tty5
root 1023 1 0 Jul08 tty6 00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty tty6
root 2405 1 0 12:44 tty1 00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty tty1

Is it recommended to have all of these running?

Thanks,

Stickybit.

each of those is a console screen. tty1 is what you get when you press ctrl-alt-f1 and so on.
if you don't want all of them then comment some out of the /etc/inittab. i usually keep 2 for when i get into a mess ;)

That's just the answer I was looking for. Perfect!

StickyBit.
