Hi! guys, i am a litle ignorant about java webstart, i know its use to write applications for over the net. but how and where would i use it,i mean can some one give a little summary of its usage. do u write simple applications which can be used here, or is it an extension of applets or what is it??

it would be great if some one can help here, thanx alot.

First Java Web Start is not used to write applications for use over the net. It is an application-deployment technology which allows the launching of a Java APPLICATION from a web browser. It also allows for automatic updates of the applications.

For more details, demos, sample code, docs, etc... plesae check out Sun's Java Web Start website at:

It is really a great product, and away for developers to move away from applets for writing full featured web products, except for the small niche areas that need a little something EMBEDED in a webpage.

I hope this helps answer you questions, and direct you to the best source for the details, demos, and sample code.
