What is ESS and LSP exactly? 2

Hello,

Not quite clear on what is ESS and LSP. Is LSP when a remote gateway looses connection to the WAN and becomes self sufficient as a stand alone PBX (almost)?

Not sure how ESS works.

tlpeter - factually correct but not very useful.

LSP - A local survivable server that does exactly that. When the main server fails/disapears/whatever, the LSP continues to operate independently managing its locally attached resources, stations, trunks, etc.

ESS - An enterprise survivable server that when the main server fails/etc continues to operate independently managing locally attached resources but also perhaps more importantly will manage other surviving port networks that it remains in communication with.

In my case I have three IP connected port networks with a duplicated S8720 and an ESS. If I were to lose the S8720 complex, the ESS will take over control of any surviving port network(s).

The ESS maintains a complete copy of your translations to facilitate this. A key point to remember is that when the ESS assumes control, you can make changes to your translations but you cannot save them. You lose any changes with an init. There are a lot more restrictions for ESS operations that you can research.
