I have my own pc that I have in my room. No one uses it except me. I had 5 GB left in my hard drive earlier today. But in the evenining I have only 64 Kb left. I have nothing left! I removed 15 mb of files in my computer, so then I checked out the c drive to see amount of space left. It said 15 mb left. Fine..Then one minute later it went down to 4 mb then to 64 kb. Now it's jumping every few minutes from 64 to 249 to 128. And so on. Is there a program I can get to get restore my hard drive space. I used AVG 6.0 and norton antivirus but it says that I have no virus's. What should I do? I tried disk defrag, but it required at least 15% disk space. It said I have 0%. I already got rid of files that I used but can't afford to get rid of more. I did disk clean up, but I gained nothing from that. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Clean out your TIF (Temporary Internet Files) folder. Also, clean out your TEMP directory. This will free up your space.

As for your disk space being "eaten" in the first place, check under Task Manager which programs are actually running. If you see an unusual program, try killing the process.

PS: What OS?

Also see how your virtual memory is set up. If you don't specify a reasonable upper limit, you may chew up all available space.

for so long that they think I am now

My initial size is 192mb and my maximum size is 384mb. But i get an error saying there is not enough memory whenever I put a initial size higher or lower. Last time I check i now have 0 bytes left. Think i should reinstall my operating system and delete everything?

are you running FTP?
a non secure ftp server will fill up with MP3's and programs pretty quick!

If you are on a network or have an Internet connection disconnect it until you have this figured out. Look for new files (Find files created during previous day) on your system and see if you can see a pattern to them. If you really had 5G of free space it shouldn't be hard to find it/them. You will probably have a lot of small files or one really big one.

Once you have identified these rogue files you should be able to delete some of them to get some work space on your hard drive. Just be careful that you are not deleting "good" files. The files you find should give you a clue as to what is going on.

If you continue to loose disk space, try booting to safe mode and see if behavior stops.

Let us know what you find.

WiFi?

That is are you networked with 802.11b?

You say 'in my room', what is the physical net connection?
