We have a PC

Celeron 2.0
512 meg PC2700
200 Gig hard drive
64 meg Nvidia video card
Windows XP pro
Office 2003
DSL internet connection through the Ethernet card.

This computer is used for internet courses. There is a few games (Tetris, Frogger, etc) nothing requireing lots of space or power.

When the computer is being used without the network cable attached it behaves fine. When you attach the cable the computer starts slowing down immediately and continues untill it will do nothing.

I have ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, Microsoft beta spyware software, norton suite, and Hi-Jack this.

Nothing shows up. Could this be a virus, trojan, or is it possible the network card is deffective?

Do you have the Windoes XP firewall enabled or some kind of firewall going?

I would go to the command prompt and do a 'netstat' and see what kind of activity is going on (what kind of connections the PC has going to and from it) when you first plug the cable in.

It's also possible you have a chattery NIC and I would try updating to the latest drivers.

Also, please post a HJT log.

Hope this helps,

Erik
