I am trying to find out how does an uplink port on a hub differ from other ports on the hub? When is it used? And why is it used?

Thanks in advance

An uplink port on a hub is used when you have more than 1 hub. It is used to link the hub with another hub. That is pretty much the basic explanation of the uplink port. You can also use the uplink port to plug a PC into and look at firm ware (on some hubs). Does this help? James Collins

Normally you would need to use a Crossover cable, with an uplink port, you can use a normal cable to link two hubs. I love everyone til they prove otherwise, sadly some prove otherwise SO quickly
