What is DID

with DID you can have multi numbers assigned to one trunk
the phone system decodes the number and delivers it to the proper extension .
typically each employee has their own number assigned (without having to have a trunk per employee )
so for the sake of discussion a company can have 100 DID numbers and 20 trunks
if you have a customer that just needs a direct lint to a extesnion than you just assign a trunk to that extension exclusivly and your done .
