I have just installed a new hard drive due to a bad virus and I would like to restore my old, virus checked, mailboxes for Eudora from a zip file. When I unzipped the file I noticed that there are three different types: .mbx, .toc, and several files all with the same name "descmap.pce". It looks to me like these "descmap.pce". files are the "Location maps" for the mailboxes but I am not sure what to do with them. I don't remember them being there when I made the backup. Should I put them in the "Data folder" along with the .mbx and .toc files?

Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks for your help.

They appear to be normally there, at least I also have them, however they are not necessary to restore your mailboxes, I have done this many times and all I copy are the .mbx and .toc files. Even the .toc files are not really necessary as Eudora will recreate them.

Description map file

The descmap.pce file is a small text file that maps (i.e. associates) the mailbox descriptive names with the actual filenames - this is how you can give your mailboxes more than eight letter names. The format is fairly straightforward - look at one for an example. The mailbox sub-folder structure is not included - each of these subdirectories has its own descmap.pce file that describes the mailboxes in it. Eudora will automatically create this file on start-up if it doesn't find it, using the names of the .MBX files as the mailbox names, and .FOL subdirectories as folders (actually this is a guess).
