I'm fairly new to Nortel Meridian systems, we have a System 1 Option 11C.

Already I'm familiar with switching TNs (moves), setting up new phones, wiring, voicemail, etc. Most of this is already scripted for us, we just type in the info with the changes necessary.

What I'm curious about is what DES is in reference to LD 20 / Create a new phone on a TN. All of our phones say "Train" when you look at their TN config. What exactly can DES be set to and how does it affect a phone's configuration?

Des - designation - meaning less to end user or set. Good for IT/Telecomm

some companies use DES for bill-back
if HR is 60079

everyone in hr has a phone des of 60079

I usually put the location of the phone in there on the tn prints, but on routes etc.. I put the circuit numbers

I use it to mark each department the phone is in.

Can the DES be changed to a TN that is currently in use? Or can it only be changed when creating a line from scratch?
Thanks...
Joe
