hi experts,

I'm trying to help my dad remove the Welchia.B worm from his computer.

You must be logged on as Administrator to turn off the System Rfestore feature. So we can't proceed because he dosn't know the admin password.

If he has not changed it - what would it be by default?

thanks, John

It would be the password that he originally entered when he installed Windows. If he didn't enter one then it may be just "blank" (nothing).

What username did he use when he did his Windows Updates or installed any software, that would have to be an Administrator user. You can also try the inbuilt Administrator in Safe Mode.

If he hasn't ever installed software or Windows updates, then one solution would be a reformat and reinstall of windows to rid himself of the problem and to set up XP with passwords.

He can then read about Password Reset Disks and preventing Forgotten Passwords in Help and Support.
