What is db?

I've got a dumb question. What is db? I do not know assembly but know enough to know what I'm looking at is machine language

I have an asm file I created from a program and it has db listed on every line next to some hex. So naturally, I'm curious what db is.

DB is the "Define Byte" directive; it is a one-byte data type. The data type char from the C programming language is a decent analogy.

Hmmm... At the time I wrote this post I had found an unusual file on a friends box called navpaw.exe. I couldn't get to it in windows normal mode but was able to play with it in safe mode. I unpacked it in a hex editor for fun and found DB everywhere which kind of got me curious. So I saved it as an asm file and tried to understand it on my own computer. Turns out after about a whole month Antivirus companies say its a nasty little worm that does all sorts of things similar to agobot.
