What is ColdFusion... (i read the wiki article)

i read the wiki article but still have questions.

so its a programming language and a framework like .NET but what does it run on? IIS, apache, its own thing?

CF is one of the best programming languages out there. It can do anything/everything any other language can do and it's 10x easier to code/debug/maintain.

Each CF code that you want to execute is wrapped around <cfoutout></cfoutput> tags. Functions, variables, tags are incredibly simple.

I think, before the naysayers come in here: let's call CF a Rapid Development Language. And it is pretty darn good. I've used it from corporate size level to my personal travel website...and it's equally up to the requirements. And the good thing is: Adobe is pushing upgrades in a regular basis - CF 9 already in the pipe.
 
Somewhat OT, but Ben Forta's site is always a good resource to counter the argument that nobody uses it.

Yes, we use it too, internally and externally.
