I have been in telecom in various capacites for 8 years from provisioning, tech support, to being an installer in the field for over 3 years pulling and terminating cables, building telco closests. Also have some limited knowledge of basic UNIX commands, some knowledge of subnetting, and networking.
I go to avya, nortel, microsoft, cisco web sites and so many certificates to choose from. The certificates i have least knowledge of are the nortel and avya ones.
I am looking for some knowledge and to enahnce my resume with something i can finish in 3-6 months what certificate do you guys recommend...thank you

Depends on what you want to work on....

Avaya cert if you want to work on Avaya, Cisco for cisco, etc.

I would recommend Cisco CCNA --> CCNP --> CCIE

But thats all IP an IPT and will make all doors open.

I have from Avaya ACA and ACS this will also give you work everywhere and is for someone from telecom side mutch easier. also doing cisco the combination is really good for me.

If you not work with Avaya i recommend the cisco Cert the network stuff you can use for all brands.

Cisco CCVP (Cisco Certified Voice Professional) as it now covers both the CCNA/P aspect of networking and also very good coverage of VoiP.

Quite a new qualifiaction (2 years old) but will be widely respected in the next couple of years.

When I was born I was so suprised I didn't talk for 18 months

I have been in technology since 1982. Things are constantly changing. In telecom I have found that there are so many techs looking for work that companies now look for particular certifications. In other words, overall experience does not hold as much weight. The problem though is that certificates are expensive. A two week course will cost up to ten thousand dollars. I suggest,
looking into classes that will enhance your knowledge
with any phone system you find yourself working on. This would be CISCO and networking knowledge. Having a strong
PRI, TCP/IP, and T1 background is good. I would choose Nortel over Avaya if you go with more telecom.
