What is best network printer port to use for Win2K

Can anyone tell me what the best port to use for network printing is? The +'s and -'s of Local port vs TCP\IP port and LPR port.

Our Printer support company is telling me that LPR is the best, but I can't find any information that corroborates that assertion, and one source that said that LPR was actually slower because it took two passes to print instead of one.

Currently most of the Win2K clients are setup to use a Local Port: \\printserver\queue is this bad?
