Hello,
I was wondering if someone could give me info on what an AS400 is? Is at a database, OS, Software...?

TIA
JordanR

It is an IBM computer. It's root are based from the old System 3, System 36, System 38. As it roots are in the system 38, it is a database machine. DB2 got its start there. Waht more info do you want / need?

Is it it possible to write ASP applications to tie to the database or will there have to be some XML to connect the ASP Web Application to the AS400 database?

Thanks!
JordanR

They renamed the AS/400 to something stupid like iSeries eServer a few years back. Most people still call it AS/400.

AS/400 is the hardware.

OS/400 is the operating system that is generally found on the box. It can also run Linux, Unix, and Windows but haven't dealt with those on AS/400.

The database is DB2 for AS/400 (iSeries or whatever). It is different from the other flavors of DB2.

DB2 is tied very closely to OS/400 and the hardware.

Linkage to the database can be done via ODBC. I'm not sure about ASP or XML.

Do you know of any testing site/server like Brinkster that I may use to test ODBC connection using an ASP page?

Thanks tcsbiz,
This is very a very helpful start.
