what is an error 1

Hi

I'm trying to build my own home made video editing suite using linux.
Basically I downloaded the source of cinelerra that replacement of broadcast 2000.

However I always get a failed compile. I see a lot of error 1 messages during the compiling, which thus results in an incomplete binary.

What is an error 1 and cannot it be solved pretty easily.

Usally the error 1 follows some messages regarding undifined symbols.
