Hi:

Appreciate any help with this:

I've been working with FrontPage 2000 for a couple of years, to build and maintain a web site for a property management firm:
Questions: What is a sub web? How do I build it? Where do I put it? Does it go in a separate folder? How do I name it? Do I have to pay for another domain name?

I've searched the FAQs on this site and no joy.

Thanks in advance. Gus Brunston [glasses] An old PICKer, using Access2000

A subweb is a separate website under the same domain name, but it can be controlled by different webmasters. A example might be that you have a large corporation with a number of different departments. The corporation's main webmaster controls the overall site, but each of the departments has a subweb under it that those departments control. So the overall site is mywebsite.com, but you would have a subweb under that called mywebsite.com/sales and permissions are assigned to another person to edit the site.

Other things subwebs can be used for:

You can password protect a subweb.
If you want to use more than one shared border.
Search only one section of a website with the search component
Site gets too large (one of mine grew too big, and I had split into subwebs to make publishing easier).

To create one, simply create a new folder and call it whatever you want. Then right click on the folder and choose Convert to Subweb. In FP 2002, you can publish the entire website, including subwebs, but I believe in 2000 you have to publish them separately. Linda Adams
