what is a stack overflow?

I have an e-machine that has never given me much trouble until recently when I have been trying to install more software and it tells me there is a stack overflow problem. Then it won't finish the installation. I have deleted some programs, but it is still ocurring.

It is 399mhz Celeron processor, Win. 98. 6.4 Gig hard drive. The system is only 1/2 full.

This error has nothing to do with lack of disk space, so you didn't need to uninstall anything.
