What is a "Learn" cycle ?

I rec'd the following this morning from one of my call managers. I'm not sure what it's telling me? Thanks

This is a hardware alert obviously having to do with the internal battery. Not sure what a learn cycle is however in the IBM world. I would get with IBM to see what the exact issue is.

This has become a periodically recurring thing. From what (very) little I have been able to find out, the alarm is being generated by the battery backup unit (BBU) in the RAID controller. Furthermore when this alarm comes in it is accompanied by another alarm from the RAID controller informing us that the BBU is disabled and changing the virtual disks to WriteThrough (WT) mode from WriteBack (WB) mode.

Bottom line is it's a hardware fault coming from the RAID controller. I have only seen this alarm from ONE (1) of my two SUBS and never from the PUB.

To my knowledge none of us have executed the "LEARN" cycle it is calling for, yet the alarm eventually goes away on its own.

Probably time to let TAC have a look at it.
