PCL is a translation of the screen image into a printed page, which is used by word processing and business programs and is found on less expensive, slower printers.
Postscript is a description of the printed page which is roughly interpreted onto the screen and is used with graphics and publishing programs. Due to the complexity of the documents, Postscript printers require more memory and a specialised interpreter, and therefore are more expensive. They are more likely to be found attached to a Mac.
The original Postscript is a copyrighted Adobe Product, and has been emulated by HP, Brother and other big names. Postscript's roots are in high quality printing, as are Type1 fonts which are designed to work best with Postscript. It is only recently that Type1 fonts cold be used with windows with ATM, though most people recommend it for font management and enabling the use of Multople Master fonts
A test page from your printer will indicate if your printer is a postscript printer, and if it is a genuine Adobe Postscript, the logo will be present. You will need to use the postscript driver and have the PPD (Postscript Printer Definition) specific to your printer installed the in [pmdir]\RSRC\[language]\PPD folder to identify it to PM.
