Hello all,

I've been having this error show up in our SQL Logs lately, but am having difficulty finding out just exactly what it means.

Earlier the box hung on us and had to be [physically] forced to restart (which caused the cluster to fail over to the other node). The cluster is operating on this machine again, but we just had system database and tran log backups fail for the error below. Does anyone know what it means? Does this mean there is a bad memory module (RAM)? Or something else?

Code:
[Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 845: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Time-out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 2 for page (1:80), database ID 2.

Also, when I look at the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), no info shows up under each of the sections on the Performance tab (i.e. Totals, Physical Memory, Commit Charge(k), or Kernal Memory), nor does anything appear under the Processes tab.

That looks about right from our results. As it turns out, there are multiple hardware issues on the server, and new pieces are needed, as well as an O.S, and SQL Server rebuid on it and, as a result, the other node in the cluster as well.

Thanks for the info; I passed this on to others.

no problem, I'm glad that information was helpful.

- Database performance looks fine, it must be the Network!

I have found that a lot of times that error is caused by the log file or TEMPDB not growing fast enough for the transaction.
