What IE setting would keep a user from seeing the Java Applet?

All users but one (who screwed up his settings) can see their lotus e-mail through the internet explorer. This one can get into his email but gets the little symbol where his action bar should be to create new mail etc.. what setting could be messed up so that he can not use this applet?
