Hello list,
Can anyone give me some pointers about using 1720s as VPN clients. What card is needed to make the VPN connection over Cable or DSL? Is there any good documentation for doing this? What Cisco class would one take to get familiar with this?
TIA
Leon

You do not need a card to make the VPN connection, although you could use a hardware encryption card so you can free the CPU from the encryption/decryption burden. You do need IOS version 12.2(15)T or 12.3(1) or higher. The hardware encryption module is MOD1700-VPN. The link below is an excellent guideline configuring the routers as EZVPN client and server:

I don't think there is a class for it but "Securing Cisco IOS Networks" goes into VPN and security issues.

Thanks themut,
That guide looks good.
About the cards:
The routers currently have only one ethernet card and one T1 CSU\DSU. I am still thinking that I will need to put an ethernet card in place of that. Am I nuts?
I see that in the config of the 1715V it looks like only one ethernet interface. The client has 2 though.
We are hopefully going to put about 20 remote locations on VPN connections using the 1720s as the clients and a PIX for the firewall/VPN server.
Thanks for the info
Leon

I missed the DSL part... in your case you need two ethernet ports: one for the LAN and another one for the DSL connection.
