I have a w2k domain controller that I would like to gracefully retire. All the I'm ready to run DCPromo->Demote on it. One question I have is what to expect to happen to the DNS server on it. Does it stay installed and untouched as an active directory intergrated DNS server?

Thanks in advance.

No, AD integrated requires the DNS server be a DC. Make sure you have DNS running on another DC. Make sure you have removed this DC from the DHCP scope options and any other servers static IP information. As I recall, when you run DCPROMO it will uninstall DNS.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
