Dear All,
I have a query and wonder whether anyone would know the answer to this question.
I have setup a Windows 2000 network and we have an arbituary internal domain namespace, eg. internaldomain.com. This works perfectly without problems. However, we don't own our internal domain namespace on the Internet..
My question is, what if someone purchases internaldomain.com, would it interfere with our working in anyway?

You can have a common domain name used in internal network and external network. In this case, of course there will not be possible another company to have same domain. (as long as it is managed by Internic, or other similar organizations).

Or, you can have a domain name space used just internal, and another one used external. Internal you can use whatever you want. External as I said above, should be an official one.
For the internal one, Microsoft advice is to have also a registered one (for future company changes...).

How to design the DNS zones for this ?
Your internal zone will not be replicated on the internet. Your internal DNS sever eventually you will configure it to use as forwarder the external DNS server (server that will have a zone known to the internet).

Why don't you just register the name anyway? Its very cheap, and could save you much hassle in the future...
