We are attempting to backup the APS MSDE database that is the default database that comes with C.E. 9.0. There do not seem to be any references in the administration guide.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to any references or actual writeups to backup this database?

Thank you.

I believe you can stop the services and just copy the files, as it is a MSSQL server type db. That is what we are doing since we just have ce9 standard.
If you have professional, there may be more options.
Are you trying to set up a backup server?

That would be nice, - all I am doing is getting a valid backup, streamed to tape or disk where I can recover from.
We have professional and it comes with no documentation on this topic. When I searched the knowledgebase, all I came up with is a link to Microsofts knowledgebase with a number of Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 241397

HOWTO: Back Up a Microsoft Data Engine Database with Transact-SQL

If provides instructions on how to do this. The concensus around here is that this documentation should be provided. Who in their right mind would implement a system without a backup. (We ususally use Tivoli (TSM) as the backup of choice, but sinice the msde database is always open.......and everything we have here is automated)
Thank you for the comments.

Yes, cd is great in a lot of areas of documentation, but there are a few holes. Now that I think about it some more, I remembered these: ce8_disaster_recovery_plan.pdf and 'how to change the default password for the msde database', article id c2011210. Also the list of "all" crystal enterprise documents: docs_enterprise.pdf.

if you DO have MS SQL Server anywher in your organisation you can use Enterprise Manager to connect to the MSDE and back it up properly.
