I am setting up a multihomed network with a GE connection to one provider and one FE to another. I will be using two routers for redundancy. Both will take full BGP tables.

All traffic is for websites. The routers will not be doing any filtering, firewalling, etc.. Strictly used for BGP and network redundancy. Most of our traffic will be ~ 20Mbps however we do have spikes > 100Mbps. I would like to support spikes up to 500 or even the full 1000 depending on cost. At minimum the router with the FE needs to support close to the full 100Mbps.

I cannot afford a new solution so will be buying used equipment. What do you recommend for hardware.

This article: An eWeek labs test seems to indicate a 2851 will support traffic up to the 1Gbps mark.. Has any one really seen this?

Will an NPE-G400 with GE cards in a chassis be able to support this?

Or should I be looking at a NPE-G1.

Cost (and growth) are both important. Cost more so initially.

Thanks!
