What file extensions can I use that won't trigger virus software?

Hi,

We have a small development team and are writing a solution that has many different file types for downloading.

Somebody mentioned that some file types are reserved windows file extensions or are keys to virus software to alert on possible virus attacks. Is this correct, if so, where can I find filenames to avoid.
