What ever happened to CorelCHART ? ? ? ...And, does ANYONE happen to know if Corel Corp. has yet “come to its senses” and developed the required “filters” that allowed the “seamless integration” of CorelCHART with CorelDRAW 5.0, and with other Windows programs like PowerPoint ?

For those who might not be aware, CorelDRAW 5.0 was (and STILL is) an EXCELLENT version. And as a “bonus”, it came with other software as part of a CorelDRAW “Suite". This included "CorelCHART" - which is unquestionably THE BEST software on the market for development of CHARTS and GRAPHS. Was then, and STILL is today.

I suspect many CorelDRAW users have REMAINED with CORELDRAW 5.0 – because, to my knowledge, it’s the LAST version that came with CorelCHART and these “filters”. In spite of this TREMENDOUSLY POWERFUL combination of CorelCHART being seamlessly integrated with CorelDRAW and PowerPoint, and requests to Corel Corp. to provide these required “filters” to permit CorelCHART to be compatible with later versions of CorelDRAW, Corel Corp. has NOT YET “come through”. I find this VERY STRANGE. What a way to LOOSE MONEY !!! - and from what I understand, Corel Corp. could stand to MAKE some money.

FOR THE RECORD...

CorelCHART is EXCEEDINGLY SUPERIOR to Microsoft's "charting engine" which is found in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint). With “canned” software for charts & graphs – like Microsoft’s charting engine – there are LIMITATIONS as to what you can do to “dress up” your chart or graph. By comparison, with CorelCHART embedded seamlessly within CorelDRAW, “the sky is the limit” as to what one can do to “dress up” a chart or graph. With CorelDRAW being a complete “graphics” package, there simply are NO LIMITATIONS – except for one’s imagination.

The "beauty" of CorelCHART is that charts & graphs can be TOTALLY embedded within CorelDRAW and then within PowerPoint presentations. This is to say, that these charts/graphs can actually be saved right WITHIN a PowerPoint file. When the PowerPoint file is loaded, the user only has to "right-click" on the chart/graph and choose "Open in CorelCHART". This will launch BOTH CorelCHART and the chart/graph. And, if CorelDRAW had been used, then CorelDRAW can be launched for editing. When you update a chart/graph, Control-S works like normal.

This "interaction" (referred to as “OLE” for Object Linking & Embedding) between CorelCHART , CorelDRAW, and other Windows products like PowerPoint, works EXTREMELY WELL - in fact SO well, that it actually works BETTER than Microsoft's own products.

So, bottom line is – there are those of us who STILL remember CorelCHART and STILL recognize that it is STILL the BEST product on the market for creating charts and graphs.

So, I feel it’s worth investing in a little effort to determine:

1) Has anything changed since I last made an enquiry about CorelCHART?

2) Do we have ANY hope that Corel Corp. will “see the light”, and RE-LAUNCH CorelCHART ?

3) Does anyone happen to have any “connections” with the “brass” at Corel Corp. ? ? … and

4) Is it possible to “get through” to Corel Corp’s “brass” – about the above – and the realization that they HAD the World’s BEST software for creating charts and graphs, and

5) Can Corel Corp. be made to realize that they could make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ with a RE-LAUNCH of CorelCHART, and in the process, make MANY PC users EXTREMELY GRATEFUL.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and needless to say, feedback (and assistance if possible in reaching Corel Corp.) would be appreciated. :)

I agree dale I think corel should definately reinstate the feature. I have just reinstalled coreldraw 5 so that I could take advange of corelchart.

for years I struggled with ms excel charts for our annual report and to find that by going back to an old version of corel all my problems could be solved.

I sure hope corel sees the light.

Now that Corel Corp has new owners, I wonder if it's possible to convince the new management to reintroduce CorelCHART - as OLE-compatible software to enhance their recent versions of CorelDRAW ???

My previous post makes the point that when CorelCHART is used as an OLE (object linking and embedding) object embedded within a CorelDRAW file, it makes for an EXTREMELY versatile and powerful charting and graphing environment. It is, without question, the ABSOLUTE BEST software for charts and graphs.

This "duo" of CorelCHART & CorelDRAW “blows Microsoft's charting engine clear out of the water”.
[cannon]

It offers users complete flexibility and enables the creation of very "professional" charts. In comparison, Microsoft's charting engine has "pre-set" options for the positioning of headers, footers, legends, etc, etc, that are "very restrictive" in comparison. With CorelDRAW's power, there are essentially NO LIMITS to the options and ways you can enhance your charts and graphs.

For all you dedicated Microsoft Office users, please appreciate that the charts/graphs created using this CorelCHART / CorelDRAW method can EASILY be embedded as true-OLE objects within any Windows product – including of course Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

And please believe me, once you’ve experience the “complete flexibility” I speak of, you’ll “feel cheated” that you’ve been restricted to Microsoft Office for generating charts and graphs.

To make CorelCHART compatible with the later versions of CorelDRAW, Corel Corp. only needs to provide the required “filters” (which were provided up to and including CorelDRAW release 5). In creating “filters” for the later versions, I’m convinced users will be VERY willing to purchase CorelCHART so they can GREATLY enhance their current version of CorelDRAW. Others who don’t currently own CorelDRAW, will want to “run out and buy” CorelDRAW and CorelCHART – so they won’t be left behind in meeting the “new professional standard” in the generation of charts and graphs.

HELP NEEDED !!! [talk] [talk] [talk] Please appreciate that HELP is required in order to get the attention of the new owners of Corel Corp. Any assistance you can offer by way of verbal support in this Tek-Tips thread, will be GREATLY appreciated - and perhaps VERY effective. And of course your support will hopefully result in a FANTASTIC “reward” for ALL of us – by convincing Corel Corp. to reintroduce CorelCHART.

Many thanks for any and all HELP you can offer. :)

Hey Dale, good to see you. You are a little out of your "turf" but it is good to know you are still alive and kicking. It is getting to be "that time" of year. ARe you still available for instruction, help, and all around general Excel Guru-ness?

In answer to your question, in doing a search on the Corel Website, I came across a SP for Word Perfect 11. In that update there is reference to charting functions and enhancements as part of Quattro Pro 11. This is just a wild stab in the dark (since I haven't used Word Perfect since sometime around 1995) is it possible that the Corel CHART functions got taken out of the DRAW suite and incorporated into the Office suite? I have no idea -just tossing ideas around. Maybe someone with current experience can comment.

Anyway, it is good to see you on the forum.

You may want to post your comments to the Corel News Group. Go to Corel's site - support amd there should be a link to the news group signup. I know that some Corel employees participate there and you may well start a healthy discussion thread.
