We are trying to get our Access 97 database shared on multiple computers. We have changed everything in Access that was required. They are still coming up in read-only. We even set up a dummy db, same thing. We saw a file name the same as the dummy db with .ldb extention. Does this mean locked database?

Every time a database is opened, an .ldb file is created. This is how Access deals with the record locking issues. When the database is closed, then the .ldb goes away.

One thing to check.
Have everyone close the database.
Have one person open Access, and go to File ¦ Open
Over on the right side of the dialog box is a check box that says "Exclusive"
This CANNOT be checked if you want to share a database.

Another thing.
Are you on a network? If so, make sure the users have the appropriate rights to the folders (read, write).

One more.
In Explorer, right click on the .mdb file.
Go to Properties.
Make sure the "Read-Only" check box is NOT checked.
Jim Lunde
compugeeks@hotmail.com
<a href= Application Development

This sounds like a file permissions thing to me. I've noticed in the past that if users don't have delete permissions on the area where the mdb file is stored, the ldb file will stay even when there is no one using the database.

As Jim says, make sure the users have appropriate access permissions on the folders.

Jon.
Jonathan
j.w.george@virginnet.co.uk

Working with: Visual Basic 6, Access 97, Visual Interdev 6, VBScript, Active Server Pages, SQL Server 6.5, Oracle 7
