Hi Everyone, I am a solaris administrator. I am getting some soft errors on one of our disks, no hard errors. Can someone provide more details fo what the soft errors actually mean. I get 2-3 soft errors showing up about every couple of weeks. What my main question is, doe the soft errors mean the disk needs to be replaced ?

Thanks

Hi amreek, when a soft error is detected, the data residing on the affected block(s) will be moved to another block, then the 'bad' block is either repaired, or mapped out as a flawed sector. My own experience is that soft errors are often the harbinger of hard erros, and you are as well to do the necessary disk swap sooner rather than later. Others amy disagree however!
