Hi ,

I get message of "MyServerName syslogd: going down on signal 15".

What does it mean? Someone turns off the syslog?
Thanks

babeo, yes, a message like that indicates that the syslogd was killed.

You might also get the message when the system is being booted (I'm not sure), but you didn't indicate that was the case in your question.

Thanks all,

Bi - At the 1st thought, I think the system is rebooted, but I check and don't see it is booted, so I think may be the process is killed, but not sure.

So, according to your explanation, then how can I check if the syslogd is back or not. I just check somethings and here are what I see the following processes running:
/usr/sbin/syslogd
/usr/dt/bin/dtlogin - deamon
/usr/lib/sysevent/syseventd
/usr/libsysevent/sysenventconfd
/usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g -h -p xxxxxxxxx

Do they mean my syslog is running?

ps -ef | grep sys

This will return something like:
# ps -ef | grep sys
root 141 1 0 May 21 ? 0:00 /usr/sbin/syslogd
root 284 234 0 20:44:56 pts/1 0:00 grep sys
#

If syslog is running else you can restart it with:

/etc/init.d/syslog start

Good Luck,
Laurie.
