I've been on the IBM web site to try and understand

1) what does file-sz mean
2) does it matter that it is so near the limit
3) what do I do about it

but I can't find any answers. Can anyone out there help please?

The first thing I did was man sar, then I searched the IBM web site. The sar man page (which is all that there is on the IBM site) has
Reports status of the process, kernel-thread, i-node, and file tables. The following values are displayed:

file-sz, inod-sz, proc-sz , thrd-sz
Reports the number of entries in use for each table.
So I have rtfm but I'm still in the dark. I don't know what a file table is. Please can you give me a little more.

Thanks

Columb Healy

The file table for every open file keeps track of properties of the file:
- file status flag
- current file offset, or current file size in i-node table entry
- pointer to v-node table entry for the file
