I'm relatively new to this program, and I am only 17 years old.I'm mainly using this program in conjunction with after effects and photoshop to make movies with my friends. I know that you guys are professionals, however, and I am curious as to what you guys are actually doing with it. I would love to pick this kind of stuff up as only a hobby really, but I would like to get quite familiar with this program. I will soon be purchasing that Classroom in a Book series for a few programs, and I would like to know what is really most important. For me, the extent of my work has been creating a complete star wars introduction (start, crawl, pan-down) all without any guides. So, if anyone has anything they wish to say to help me along, please feel free. Thanks!

Definitely spend some time at and go over their tutorials.

I make little movies using Premiere, but am currently working on our first feature, an animated adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's 1926 fantasy novel "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath":

The best way I know of to become familiar with Premiere is to...

First, don't be afraid of goofing around. You will not hurt anything if you don't save. Just try different things. Goof around. See what you like. Try everything.

Second, hook up with one or two good online discussion sources and bookmark 'em.

Third, whenever you see something you think looks really cool on TV or in a movie, try to figure out how to do it in Premiere. Sometimes, it's not possible, but sometimes, well, it's good to be surprised. If you start with the attitude that you can figure out the way of doing it, then you'll learn more and learn faster.

Fourth, Have fun!

Cheers,

Also, be sure to pick up Adobe's Classroom in a Book series for Adobe Premiere. You can follow along on how to do a lot things (transitions, titling, masking etc).

There is also the Adobe Premiere Bible that's a good source to learn from.
