What do you do when you run into administrative road blocks in a proj? 4

I keep running into administrative road blocks with my system upgrade project.

Many issues are beyong my control but all are causing serious delays that are pushing back the project time line.

Any tips?

BTW I'm a tcom engineer working to support a PBX with peripheral upgrade.

My best advice is to take several deep breaths, relax, and try to keep your blood pressure down. (Easier said than done, I realize.) It's incredibly frustrating, but if it's outside your control, there's really nothing you can do.

By other advice would be to advise your boss whenever something changes the timelines so that (s)he is always aware of why things are behind schedule.

Lucky for you, most managers (or your manager's manager) have enough C-4 (or other explosive matériel) to blow up "administrative roadblocks". If your manager is eager to see you get the job done, then it's her/his job to deal with the roadblocks...it's probably your job to take care of the technical bits, so you can assign your boss to take care of the non-technical parts.

And remember, document this stuff or you will be the last person in the food chain and thus responsible if things are late. I've often noticed that the people who spend two weeks getting around to giving you permissions on the new server are not the ones who get blamed when you can't meet the two week deadline because you couldn't even see the data until the day the project was due. Make sure everyone knows in writing that there isa raodblock beyond your control and that the project due date will move out one day for each day that roadblock is there. Amazing how much faster stuff gets done when you do this.
