I have a toshiba PCX2200 Cable Modem and have one IP address from my internet provider. I have two computers I wish to network together and share the internet access. I want to be able to hit both computers from the outside (let's say from work), using netmeeting or my own software I wrote. Do both computers have to have a static IP to do this, meaning do i HAVE TO get another IP address from my internet provider (which costs more), or is there a router or something I can purchace that will still allow me to log onto my computer from outside with only having one IP address. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The limitation that you'll find is that inexpensive routers will forward any given port to 1 machine only. If you want to get to 2 different machines inside the lan, you'll either need to setup a vpn so that you're inside the lan like any other machine on the lan. Or the other option is to set up the router to hit one machine, then do whatever you need to, modify the router settings remotely to point to the second machine, then you can get to the second machine. A more detailed explanation of this is here: thread916-416185

"Port Forwarding" on Linksys routers gives you the option to forward various ports to whatever pc you want on the LAN. You could set up a range of ports to go to one pc, and another range for the other pc. Of course, leaving ports open is not as secure. You could do it, however. Use a program like Symantec's PCAnywhere, setting up 2 different profiles based on port ranges.
