What do I need to make my network?

I already have a 100 mbit 8 port hub. I now know that I need a router to have more than 2 computers on my broadband internet (it's also better security, I understand). I'd also like to have some sort of wireless hub (if that's what it's called) so that I could connect my pda (and possibly a laptop) to the network/internet as well.

I went to future shop and took a look at what they had there, but I don't understand the difference between a broadband firewall and a dsl/cable router let alone know how to add wirelessness to the whole thing (The people there knew nothing).

If anyone could help me out and tell me what I need, I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks,
Qest

Purchase a broadband wireless router such as the Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS.

Connect your planned broadbnad connection to this device.

Use a cross-over cable, not a regular LAN patch cable, to connect the wireless router to your existing switch.

Done.

WRT54G has built in 4 port switch. Stay away from the speedbooster series for now.....lots of negative feedback on them and little or no help from linksys to fix it. Another consideration will be the type of internet you are going to use. You canbuy a specific device that would eliminate the need for the service provider modem.

Qest;

If all you want to do is run 2 computers, a PDA and a laptop over the internet, the WRT54G will do fine and if your 2 comptuters are near the router itself you won't need to use your hub. When setting up your wirless, make sure that you configure somekind of security for it like WEP. That way your neighbours won't be able to connect to your internet connection and start surfing under your account.
