Who know what difference between IBM RS/6000 7017-S80 and pSeries 680 7017-S85, I see the specification all the same

Hi,

According to IBM , The S80 model would only be available until 31/08/2001 and it would be replaced by the pseries 680 model S85.

there is not much difference between the 2 servers other than in the p 680 /S85 you can have six RS64 III processor cards or Rs64 IV processor cards , and with the RS64 IV processor , you can have 16MB of l2 ECC cache , running at 600 Mhz each , whereas S80 only has 8MB L2 ECC cache running at 450 MHz.

And with IBMs new server naming convention i.e. P series
indicating that they are ready/made for E-business and you can have Capacity on Demand available to you. There is not much difference between the 2 servers .
