I've used Delphi 3 and Delphi 5 Enterprise and still use this now on ME.
What version of Delphi (if at all) should I get now ?
I'd like to continue in a similar way trying to develop my invoicing program for use on an XP/Vista operating system.

I read in another thread here that Codegear has been bought out.

Any pros or cons for the Delphi environment ?

Heard good things of BDS2007, but not using that myself (still on D5 ;-))

I have 2007 and have been happy with it.

Only thing I have to complain about is a few times it seems to have got confused, and been unable to resolve basic units, such as Classes, as as a result shown up a heap of undeclared blah errors.
Compile and run works OK tho, and closing the project and opening usually makes it go away.
Other than that no glitches at all.

I've heard good things about 2007. That being said all of my development has been in 4, 6 and 2006. :). I have no idea what I'm missing. :)

I'm on 3 now but would love a copy of 5 or 7 if I can find it.

The .NET-written editor in TD 2006 (free though) leaves a lot to be desired, both from a runtime standpoint, and from a few other standpoints (You can make a sandwich and eat it in the time it takes to load). Unfortunately, free means highly crippled in that case (no command-line compiler pretty much sealed the deal against it for me). So know that if you are interested in that.

If you are interested in .NET development, I read Delphi isn't in a good state on that (still supports only 1.1). For Win32 stuff (my D3 stuff still works on XP just fine - my command-line stuff wouldn't work on Vista but no big loss there), you're better off sticking with something that's not BDS related.

My D7 apps all run OK on Vista so far (haven't tested them all yet) but I have had issues with Delphi Under Vista.

One program refusing to run in the IDE because Vista says its doesn't have the correct rights when all the others I have tested so far have run without a problem.
When this happens you don't get a UAC (when running from the IDE), so there is no way to debug.

Newer (than D7) versions of Delphi might not have this problem.
