Don;t get me wrong I love the T7316e. I like the fact that I can print out my customers own customized Desis and even use different fonts and add colors to the different buttons etc.. The buttons allow me to display almost all of the features my customers like to use without having to make them use Feature codes.

What could replace the trusty T7316e? Are there any more modern cosmetic handset's available that are compatible? How about something with a Back light for the display so the display can been seen better in low light? Are there any generic handsets that will work on a MICS, CICS and or BCM?

Unless you have a BCM and connect ip sets I'm afraid the t7316e us as fancy as it vets for Norstar. It would of been great if Nortel didn't go to shit as we would of seen a new digital set release by now. Oh well maybe E-metrotel will put out a digital set that will work with our beloved Nortel systems.

The problem I have with most of these high profile IP style handsets is they are not very stable on the desk. As they are used they tend to inch back on the desk. It the rubber on the bottom gets old they start to slide. There was a reason why a handset was designed for decades they way they were, it was because as they are used and pounded on the direction of the impact is towards the bottom and in the direction of the surface like a desk. These new ones have nothing at the top to rebound and they move back.

The Nortel Meridian line has a nice unique history of very smart design, very well though out. Plenty of programmable buttons that can be labeled and are spread out like on the handset. These new IP style sets make the user labor through a MENU. To much button pushing. You want to make a Page, press the Page button and not scroll through a Menu of features.

What do you think?

E-metrotel is an IP/SIP system that handles any SIP sets, it is its own system but has some of the Norstar features and an add-on to allow for Norstar sets probably because one of the designers was from Nortel.
I highly doubt the system was created primarily to keep only Norstar alive, we can and do still repair KSU's for that already since the birth of Norstar and is by far a cheaper choice.
UXc and Avaya IP Office both do a great thing and that is help migrate a business slowly over to IP.
I like to think the UCx is a fine system doing it's own thing regardless of the Norstar add-on but think maybe that is exactly the system you need to put your time into since your town is out dated, seriously though you would learn Nortar,IP and SIP at the same time.

IvNortel I hope you saw my explanation to my rather rushed short reply before it was edited and that all is good now....feel free to email me if you didn't.

One thing is I do agree about the scrolling to get to features you need, same with the Meridian sets.
Some people would rather have the good ol M2616 then an M3904 sets but this is the new way with bigger screens and less buttons.

On the sliding issue my keyboard does the same, I clean the little pads and it now stays......smaller the pad and smoother the desk is the more you have to clean them.

That would be cool.

Avaya is still manufacturing the T series sets even though the BCM has been discontinued! Just discovered that here with our Walgreens Norstar systems. We have new T Series phones showing up at out stores with the Avaya branding!

Interesting enough I visited one of the stores with the new T series Avaya sets this past weekend in Michigan and the Page Feature 62 cut The music off (on a voice activated muting contact) by pressing the page button. The pop or click that I explained in that thread that you posted Curly, existed on the new Avaya sets At our new store. The only other solution I can think of is that these are possibly refurbished Nortel sets with new Avaya housings.

Hmmm... We have at least 500 avaya branded t series sets out there and never had any issues

Btw check out the 9641g avaya sets if you have time [tt][/tt]

The Avaya 9641g is a noce lookin set ( BIG ) I think that would be a pretty big foot print on a lot of desks.

I do a lot aotraining directly with the users. I have found that the handsets that use Menus and have lots of selelctions to scroll through are pretty difficult to train on. Most of my cusers are very busy and I usually get maybe 10 mins. to set up voice mail and do training. I even have some of my own easy to to read what I call a QUICK START guide to their Nortel handsets and voice mail.

The basic customers just wants to anser the phone, hold, transfer, park & page ( maybe ) and voice mail. I really like the T7316e out of all of the sets I have even work with. Easy and very professional to label and customize with Desktop Assistant and just plain old easy to train. I find out what the function of each user is i.e. bookeeper, warehouse front offcie, etc. and set up features they would use. Label them and there you go no feature codes to use just press a button. I use common language for the features so they find the feature and push the button. Like for F3 I do not use the work CONFERENCE CALL I use 3 WAY CALL.

Unless my user really needs and WANTS what a 9641g ( for example ) does I am just going to stick with the simpler and easier soloution with handsets. Happier and less frustrated users in my experience. How about your experiences.
