What could prevent parameters from popping up?

Hi,

I am deploying the Crystal Reports developed in 8.5 through an ASP page using ActiveXViewer.

This report has 4 parameters of which I pass only 2. What could prevent the Crystal viewere from bring up the parameters box to fill in the other 2 paramters?

Any ideas?

When I run the report through the URL directly-

Then the viewer brings up the parameter box prompting me to enter all the parameter and displays the report.

So what could be in ASP that is preventing the parameter box from coming forward.

Thanks.

Are the two other parameters included in the select clause or in a grouping?

Thanks so much!

If I were to go to the report, then within the Field Explorer, where I see all the parameters, I can see 4 of them.

?PostDate
?EmpID
?Report Type
?Region Selection

I only pass ?PostDate and ?EmpID from the ASP page. Other two, I want the crystal to prompt me.

Now when you speak of select clause or grouping, within the field explorer, I can see that the report is not group through the above parameters. Now where do I look for the select clause?

I can see the above 4 parameters on the report where 2 are on the Report Header -
?EmpID
?PostDate

2 are on the Page header -
?Report Type
?Region Selection

Hope I have explained clearly.

Hope to get any ideas to bring the Crystal Parameter Dialog forward.

Thanks.

In the Select Expert,

I see several select clauses:

TableName.FieldName is one of 'Annual' and 'YTD'.
These values are same for the ?Report Type parameter

TableName.EmpID <> 9999.00

and bunch of others which are not related to the parameters, but like where clauses of the SQL statements.

If I were to edit the ?Region Selection Parameters, I can see a list of 4 regions hardcoded into the report.

But I do not think that I should change the report. This report works with a perl based web site where the website brings forward the crystal parameters to be filled up over the web. In ASP, it is not bringging forward the crystal parameters.

Thanks.

So now I am confused. You have a perl based web page sending parameters to the report, but you want crystal to present the parameters to be filled. ASP is not picking up on the perl based web sent parameters?

Thanks so much!

You are really confused. I am re-writing an entirely different web site for the client. Original one which runs right now is in Perl. This perl based script sends only 2 parameters to all the reports.

?PostDate
?EmpID

These 2 parameters are common across the many different crystal reports. Other parameters which are different across the reports are prompted by the Crystal Parameter Dialog. That way, the perl script is not touched and no matter how many reports(names) are added to the database and how many crystal reports are created, other parameters are prompted.

Now I am building an ASP web site which also does similar things and has more other functionalities. However I have had to hardcode the parameters in the ASP page which is not the goal we want to achieve. We still want to pass the above 2 parameters and then others should be brought forward by the Crystal Parameter Dialog in the browser.

I use ActiveXViewer to view the reports over the web.

Thanks.

Any ideas about the Parameter Dialog Control? Has anybody faced this issue?

I use Crystal Reports 8.5 and classic ASP.

Thanks.
