I know that most network technician jobs look very favorable to both MSCE and CCNE's. My question is what certifications are most desired fro web designers? It seems like some sites offer certifications but what does it mean if you get it from a random .com? Which are reputable and how do you determine if they are reputable or not?

I spent about two extra years in a technical college after getting my programming degree for two certificates

scripting technologies certification
web development certification

the naming of the certificates from colleges is going to very but I can tell you getting these two in the areas they are helped my qualifications greatly

I'm not sure of certificates offered from sites and other sources. I know most technical schools offer certificates programs [bomb]
I may not get it the 1st or 2nd time,
but how sweet that 15th time can be.

I'm not too sure, unlike the network field, the web design field works with experience and porfolio more then certificates...
If you apply for a job as a web designer, or seek clients on your own, the first question they ask is: What have you done so far?? If your porfolio is good then it speaks for itself... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

That says it all.

I know what you have done in the past says all it needs to about obtaining clients for small businesses in web designing, but if you are going to think about going into a career in web designing web developer etc. for a large company or such, obtaining certain certificates and better yet degrees is going to land you a well established job far faster then well done web sites to show will. From my expierience in this field with large and small companies that are looking for web developers to fill various positions, having certifications and degrees is the first thing they are going to be looking for.

I think your work speaks for it's self, however I do believe that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to get a complete working knowledge of what makes up a complex e-commerce site, without getting some form of education. Also it is one thing to copy and paste together some pretty impressive sites, but it is another entirely to code from scratch.

One thing I do when I'm interviewing a potential designer is try and get an understanding of what their knowledge base includes. So a certification or an AS computer science degree is a great start. All that said, I still, even in the final analysis, think your ability to be a creative designer is more important than a designer who has all the certs but very little creativity.

I got my training and now do some instructor and teaching assistant work at and . They offer courses with certifications for almost any facet of the web business.
