What causes ghosted pages exactly?

A question from someone very new to SharePoint ... I'm trying to understand when a page becomes ghosted.

If I use FrontPage 2003 to apply a default theme. Then chose to customize that theme using the themes palette, perhaps just changing a few fonts or colors, does that cause a page to become ghosted?

If so, I'm really confused. Why would Microsoft offer that option if it causes problems?

If applying a default theme to a site, and then making changes to that theme, does not ghost a page, then what does specifically?

Thanks,

Hello,

I am no developer, but what I have heard is that pages are ghosted from the beginning but when you make changes through FrontPage they become UNghosted.

So applying a theme (or customize things) through FrontPage should make the pages UNghosted.

Might be some developer or other guru here that knows more about it than I do :)
