Hello All!
I have a lab setup that I'm currently using. I have a few 2500's and 2600's with a frame relay switch all their all connected with a serial cables. I was just recently given a WIC-1DSU-T1. Can someone tell me what kind of lab scenario can I use this for. I know its a T1 card but how to get the best use out of it and what protocols can I use for it is what I'm confused on. Can someone shed some light. Thanks in advance

ejeangilles,

I have used 2 of these in 2 different 2600 routers and then connected them with a back-to-back cable. If you use Google you should see the pin out for making the back-to-back cable.

If you are doing lab work for your Cisco cert, you might want to join us in the Cisco Cert area here at Tek-Tips :)

We discuss labs, and Cisco certs all the time!

Just a thought!

Sure will, thanks. When you connected these back to back. What protocols can you practice that you can't practice with a serial/frame connection.

ejeangilles,

It has been a while since I have done it, all the links we use in the Cisco Academy I teach are WIC-2T's with back-to-back DCE/DTE cables.

I got the others with a router I bought several years ago on Ebay and set it up so the students saw something a little different when they did a show run, show version and show interface etc. I don't think there is really anything different that you can do that you can't do with a a WIC-1T or WIC-2T.

I am sure if there is Burt will chime in or someone :)

Hello
The WIC-1DSU-T1 is just a fancy serial interface. Its' strengh comes in the fact that it eliminates the external DCE.The phone line plug right into it's interface. So you can the same protols as with the WIC-1T/2T,PPP HDLC and FRAME-RELAY.The only problem that you will have to do a non-related CCNA configuration the get the card up and running.

Regards

The default config works for those cards, Minue---nothing fancy is needed. The default clocking and line code work for frame and PPP just fine out of the box...
