hey there,

my ISP is trying to sell me a broadband connection with a static ip address for an additional 15 dollars. they say I can do my own webhosting.

I think I still need a dns server to hold my ip. maybe there are free ones on the net?

any ideas?

cheers

You can do your own hosting without a static IP using one of the dynamic DNS services, however in my experience this can be a pain.

You'll probably want to get your own domain name.
There are lots of registrars to choose from and the domain name will only cost you $7-35 per year.

$15 seems kinda alot of money just for 1 static IP.

I believe the going rate is $10 around here, but I think its worth it if you plan on doing any hosting.

thanks for the reply.

I forget to mention the 15$ is in NZD. 1NZD~~0.60USD
