Hi,
I just started using CRv11 to create operational reports from our OLTP system (call this OLTP A).
This OLTP system feeds our companies Enterprise Data Warehouse that has many data sets from many different OLTP systems. There is basically one Business Objects universe per OLTP data set in the warehouse (assume Universe 1 is associated with OLTP A). The data in this warehouse is accessed by employees via the Business Objects webi tool (Infoview). Infoview allows you to ad-hoc build a report by dragging and dropping the data items you want in your report output).
My end users aren't always happy with the way OLTP A data comes out of Universe 1 via the Business Objects Infoview tool as Business Objects doesn't let you manipulate the returned data as much as CRv11 does with its slick programming language.
I'm thinking at the very least I can connect to Universe 1 from CRv11, get some of the warehouses version of OLTP A's data (warehouse team has done some fancy stuff joining up OLTP A's data - created a lot of measures and so forth) and manipulate/present it a little better using CRv11's programming capabilities.
Also I'm wondering what if any ad-hoc reporting capability CRv11 gives me when connected to a Business Objects universe. Would I have in any way the ability to create an ad-hoc report in CR Developer or would my CRv11 report users (who access CR reports via the web/CR Enterprise Server ) have ad-hoc query build capability?
Any advice anyone could give would be great.
Additionally if anyone can point me to some papers that overview these types of capabilities that would be great.
Thanks in advance.
