Hi All,
This is a query prompted by the "Backup Solution" thread.
I have a new IBM X235 server about to go into live use running NW6 with Veritas Backup exec 9 with an additional 3 remote agents.
It has 6 x 36GB drives giving 135GB storage on RAID 5.
Of this DOS = 500Mb
SYS = 3GB
Cadd = 65Gb split into 4 volumes.
A further 65GB is being held in reserve and is not currently mounted.
I have an external Sony AIT2 Auto-loader with a 4 tape magazine. This has 4 x SDX2 50GB native tapes (130GB compressed) loaded.
THe old NW4.11 server will be rebuilt to become our new GW6.5 mail server and has 18GB of RAID 5 storage.
I have inherited this new equipment with this job and have never used a 4 tape auto-loader before.
My old system used DDS3 with 2 times weekly Monday to Thursday sets backing up our main file server on 1 tape and 2 tapes for every Friday on a yearly rotation. Additional files from our GW mail server, border manager server and a linux box are backed up over the weekend hence 2 tapes.
What would you suggest is my best back up strategy for the new system using this new tape drive?
How many tapes would be necessary with your suggested strategy?
Any help would be greatly appreciatted.
Ben
