I notice numerous files with string designations similar to these showing up in my backup; what are they; can they be deleted?

Thanks.

If anyone can answer this without more data will have my admiration forever.

In the meantime, can you provide more info, like the directory where they are, the size, the content ...

Cheers,
Dian

That question is like a bone with no meat on it - leaves me empty (of ideas).

Backup program being used.......................
and as said: location of backup (external hard drive for example), etc.

Wild guess just for fun: If on external hard drive or second internal hard drive, windows update folders with extracted patches.

I have to agree, random sequences of alphanumeric characters can be anything. From Windows Update folders to corrupted files etc...

There's really no way to tell without more information.

Backup program being used, locations being backed up.
Size of files etc..
Something that tells us a bit more about the files.

Otherwise its like telling your mechanic your car is making strange noises and handing him a piece of paper with an onomatopoeia of the noises its making. "bpfffft... bpffffft"

Someone brilliant already proposed this, but without further information it will remain only speculation.

Whenever I've looked into these directories, they contain update files. Normally from abandoned updates. I normally delete them.

Couldn't slip that by apparently.

I think i need my eyes checked. correct. Although, blowing my own trumpet, I too am brilliant! :)

I think Goomb was referring to me though. And I thank him for that. [thumbsup2]

on my c: drive I find a folder named f9daf498655655758754 and when I doubleclick it i see other folders named amd64 and i386. inside amd64 i see msxpsdrv.inf and inside that I see

Code:
; MSXPSDRV.INF
;
; Microsoft system driver files for XPSDrv print drivers.
;
