Hi, All:

I know PMBOK is widely used. Is there any other standard in the world besides PMBOK?

Thanks.

Daniel

There are other methods, but PMBOK is THE accepted standard.

PMI is the institute that sets standards for Program/Project Management.
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) has established capability maturity models which are used to demonstrate performance at levels 1-5.
Most companies reach to achieve Level 3, however many are recognized as high as Level 5.
To achieve these levels, a company must have an external assessment performed by a certified SEI representative.

In the UK there is PRINCE2 which started out life as a government standard.

What business are you looking at. ITIL is a good one for IT. PMI is very expensive and hard to get low budgeted orgs to subscribe. such as education.

Interestingly - PMBOK isn't at all widely used in the UK as far as I know.

ITIL, which GMgerry mentions, also started life in the UK. It's not a PM methology and in fact says that it's not a methodology at all. It's a library of definitions, roles, & processes - it provides a common language so that when two people talk about a Help Desk (to use a trivial example) they're both talking about the same thing and set of business processes.
