I'm just rolling out VoIP to pilot before we put in a new location. We're running on a CS1000e Rel 5.5. Our vendor spec'd us out 1220s as the phone of choice. These only have 10/100 ethernet, and we're wired for GigE. If we went with the 1220s we'd be committing to either using 2 switchports for every phone/computer combo, or cutting our local bandwith by a tenth.

What I'm wondering is, are the 1220s identical to the 1120s with the exception of the Ethernet port? I have found an alternate source for 1120 phones that will save me a fair bit off the $220 a set the vendor would have to charge me for the 1220s, but my concern is that I might lose some other features I'd need.

The new remote site would be running a brand new BCM 50. I just want to make sure that all these devices will function together, and that I'm not shooting myself in the foot trying keep these phones GigE.

Besides the ethernet port they are cosmetically different and if memory serves the LCD is not backlit either on the 1200 series. But other than that, functionally I think they are very comparable.

The display is not as nice as the 1120/1140 sets. the case is not as shiny either, plain black with no metal trim. Was brought out as a low dollar set for construction trailers, shops etc. Other than that they work as a phone just as well as any other.....

It's a phone system, NOT a clock!
